The non-profit sector comprises over 600,000 organisations contributing $43billion to Australia’s GDP and 8% of employment. The non-profit sector continues to grow. The impact of technology, social enterprise, government outsourcing and growth in philanthropy means that non-profits are having to adopt more effective practices in running the business end of their organisations.
Non-profits of all sizes rely on effective infrastructure and management support staff and partners, however these ‘quiet achievers’ are rarely in the forefront of an organisation’s profile. We are more likely to hear about the CEOs and Directors, the fund raisers, the high profile ‘movers and shakers’ and even the frontline workers. But none of the success of non-profits could be achieved without professional and effective finance, administration, IT and human resource management…. People working behind the scenes to support the delivery of social services, environmental improvement, health, sporting and cultural services.
Once a year – for just one day – it will be the time for the Back Office to come forward and be honoured.
The Finance, Administration and Back Office Awards (the FABOs) are a new opportunity to recognise the huge contribution which non-profit organisations make to the Australian community and to recognise the ‘quiet achievers’, the people who work tirelessly behind the scenes of our non-profit sector.
To bring the FABOs to life in 2012 our intention is to create a more efficient format that recognises the contributions of the back office.
We will keep you informed of the progress we make.
Hosted by Matrix on Board as part of our commitment to the continuous improvement of management support in non-profit organisations.
